15 Years Later, Obama Extends 9/11 ‘National Emergency’ To Justify A Perpetual War On Terror

Late last month, the mainstream media took little notice as President Barack Obama extended a 15-year-old national emergency status that enables the U.S. global war on terror.

The Aug. 30 White House announcement extends the national emergency first declared by President George W. Bush just days after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Obama wrote in the memo:

Because the terrorist threat continues, the national emergency declared on September 14, 2001, and the powers and authorities adopted to deal with that emergency must continue in effect beyond September 14, 2016. Therefore, I am continuing in effect for an additional year the national emergency that was declared on September 14, 2001, with respect to the terrorist threat.
